Foundation Elena Barraquer INC is a Non-Profit organization that fights avoidable blindness due to cataract in developing countries, mainly in Africa and Latin America. Lead by Dr. Elena Barraquer, who, after 13 years as Head of Barraquer Foundation’s international cooperation program, with the accumulated experience of 100 medical missions, 12,000 cataracts operated, 80,000 patients visited and 50,000 glasses delivered, she decided to take a step forward in her commitment to restore vision to people without resources who are blind by cataracts and created the Fundación Elena Barraquer. This will continue the medical missions and will make available to other ophthalmologists the necessary tools to expand their territory of action and return the vision to the greatest number of people.
The Foundation recognizes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the global commitment to end poverty and ensure no one is left behind. This is the agreed framework for sustainable development until 2030 and addresses the challenges that our work is both impacted by and seeks to address. We are committed to making a meaningful contribution towards achieving the SDGs. Our approach is centered on avoidable blindness and vision impairment, but our efforts will cut across many of the 17 goals. Capturing and aligning with the global momentum towards universal health coverage, we will work to ensure that people receive the quality eye health services they need without facing financial hardship. We will also seek to demonstrate how challenges in eye health and their solutions can have broader implications for the way health systems and services are structured and resourced to achieve universal health coverage.
Thousands of cataracts operated in exchange for thousands and thousands of smiles… from Foundation Elena Barraquer INC we help to see life.
